The Knights of Columbus was founded in New Haven, CT, in 1882 by Father Michael J. McGivney. It was formed as a Catholic men's fraternal benefit society to provide members and their families with mutual aid in the event of sickness, disability or premature death.
The "K of C" has grown to more than 12,000 councils and 1.7 million members throughout the United States and many other countries thoughout the world. For more information on the Knights of Columbus organization, visit www.kofc.org.
The men in our council are committed to making their community a better place, while supporting their church and enhancing their own faith. We strive to be devoted men of prayer and integrity who encourage one another and support the needs of our parish and community.
Our council is vibrant and active, with over 250 members, including seven priests. We are single, married, divorced, and widowed. Our members are students, professionals, and retired; and our ages range from 20's to 80's. What binds us together is our belief in God and the Catholic Church as well as our desire to live out our faith and make a difference in our community and our world.
You see us at church. We are lectors, ushers, and Eucharistic ministers. We often serve the needs of our local parishes through simple acts of service such as blood drives, parking assistance at holiday masses, and running the beverage concessions at parish fairs.
We also make a difference in our local community through our many events, service projects and fundraising activities. Some of the causes we support include Rancho San Antonio, a home for troubled teens; S.T.A.R. House for persons with developmental disabilities; scholarships for Catholic schools students; and Christmas gift baskets for local needy families.
